Race to Net-Zero for the gastropub system

Race to Net-Zero for the gastropub system

Educating gastropubs and suppliers on carbon emissions and enabling [ collaborative ] action.

In collaboration with Peach Pubs and Net-Zero now we are leading a community of pub and bar operators with a shared goal of reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions for their businesses. They all want to do more to fight the climate crisis, and we know that increasingly their customers and employees want to see us play their part.

The collaboration is formed of Gastropubs and suppliers across food and beverage and carbon emission enablers in the form of finance, technology and service providers. Everyone within the community had ambitions around carbon emissions reduction. However, there were differing levels of maturity around carbon emissions reporting and reduction.

We are running a programme of quarterly education sessions and facilitating a digital community that supports participants. To kick off the initiative, we facilitated an ambition setting session and established ways of working. Here we set shared objectives that ensured we were working to achieve common goals. We then structured a programme of sessions and supporting resources to enable the goals.

We took the objectives that participants had and developed an education programme that balanced resources, session-based learning and activities to give participants confidence to progress their own activity.

Our sessions focus on collaboration and building networks to ensure that participants were able to build relationships that progress emissions reduction activity.

  • Increased understanding of carbon emissions
  • Practical resources to support the development of emissions reports and reduction plans
  • Increase in participants who are actively reporting and reducing their emissions

The race is continuing as we continue building emissions capability and progress reduction.
